January rolls around and we’re expected to magically lead the lives we talked about in our New Year resolution posts. In a perfect world, that’s exactly what would happen, but that just hasn’t been the case for me. It’s only the first quarter of the year and I feel like I’ve been hit by the Murphy’s Law stick — anything that could go wrong, has gone wrong. Although some days I want to hide underneath my blankets and just hibernate for a couple of days, I know that will only make things worse. Attitude is everything and once you understand this, life becomes easier. So, what did I do? I remember these three little things.
1. Everything Happens for a Reason: Hearing this expression during a tough period is probably the most frustrating thing, but it’s also the truest. There has yet to be a difficult situation that I’ve encountered that hasn’t had a great outcome. Never lose faith that things happen for a reason.
2. You Can Handle It: Sometimes we’re placed in these inopportune situations to prove [to ourselves] that we are strong enough to overcome them. Even if at the moment you feel like you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, they’re definitely is one. Just recently, I was placed in a situation where I literally felt like I would not find a solution and I couldn’t even fathom how I would get out of it. There was a point where I just stopped stressing and just faced issues head-on. So, what happened? Things worked out! Rather than stressing about what I had no control over, I faced issues that I could control head-on. You can do it!
3. Suffering is Temporary: Personally, knowing that everything in life is so fleeting, it gives me hope that things will always get better. Tough times don’t last, but tough people do. Want to know how I know you’re tough? Because you’ve survived every single bad day.
You are awesome and I love you.
