Spotlighting the next generation artist.
By Zaida Diaz
Atlanta native Marian Mereba has an ethereal voice that’s equally matched with the purest of poetic bars. Since 2014, the songstress has been elevating hip-hop tracks one feature at a time. Most recently she collabed with Dreamville’s newest signee on the intimate song “All Bad” (read more below). Mereba’s solo work demonstrates versatility, as she often shifts through genres. After a performance at The Roxy Theatre in L.A., last month, she took to social media to hint that her upcoming project is underway. Naturally we’re beyond stoked. Check out the five Mereba jams we got on replay and you’ll understand why.
All Bad – J.I.D ft. Mereba
Mereba joins fellow ATL rapper J.I.D on a quest for truth in this emotional break-up track. The slow-tempo combined with their harmonizing vocals helps create a melancholic yet comforting tone. They capture the sensibility that comes with the end of any romance to a tea.
Rolling Stoner – Mereba
Perhaps the Ethiopian-American showcases her penmanship best on this little number. The beautiful imagery and imaginative wordplay makes for a captivating two minutes. Our “rolling stoner” will have you wandering away to a higher state.
Lady Nectarine – EarthGang ft. Mereba
As much as Mereba’s delivery shines on this track, we have to give major props to Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot for always bringing raw lyricism. If you’re new to the rap duo and liked what you heard, I promise you there is much more where that came from.
Bet – Mereba
The singer-songwriter delivers an ode to that bad boy you can’t seem to shake off with this melodic tune.
Chasing The Moon – Mereba
Not sure if anyone’s ever rapped about unattainable love with folk-infused music playing in the background (harmonica and all). Doesn’t seem like the obvious choice, but Mereba makes it work oh so beautifully.
